I moved from Anchorage to Wasilla in March 2004.  I tried to look for work as a bookkeeper and didn't have any luck so I decided that I would create a job for myself.  I use to do alterations for several exclusive stores in Anchorage.  I worked with Kay Larkin in preparing Miss Alaska's warddrobe for The Miss America competition.

I figured that fitting and sewing was one talent that I was really good at so why not open an alteration shop.  Sewing is a passion in my life and although I didn't learn how to sew from a book or a school I feel that what I have learned from all the years that I have spent sewing is more valuable.

I opened Mila's Alterations in October 2004.  At first I started with 2 sewing machines which were almost 20 years old.  I took a bunch of stuff from my house and tried to make my shop as cozy as I could.
